Walk a hundred miles.PNG

Life is so much in order or disorder. It seems to be impossible to simply start walking without direction and goal. We want to stick to our well known tracks with too less or too much wilderness in us. Arriving at an unknown place is acceptable as holiday destination but please not in daily life.

Travel to three places.PNG

In our night and day dreams we travel a lot to nice, to awful, boring or frightening places. We long for tenderness with people, that walk by without noticing us. Travelling to places that never come true: it might be warm or cold out there. Do we find people we love? How do the land-scapes look like? Do birds fly around? Do sunsets chase moons for fun?

Many of us want to loose weight, some better gain weight. We all fear to become light as dust.
We can never loose gravity apart from swimming in an ocean or flying to a moon.
May be the greatest magicians in the univers can play with gravity as it were rabbits , the two women on the photograph are surely not two of them.

Old family photos

Like an outdoor children's game -
look away: steps voices,
look again: everyone stands still
endlessly interwoven.

Children stretch out, rummage for
their names, the names of their children, want to swim,
starting a new life.

Are they about to come
to the front or back door?
Will they need parents, siblings ,
daycare, school places?

Now the birds are in the trees,
the skies above are clearly visible
like canopies, party tents, years
passing through.

My father was.PNG

My father was a well-known
photographer of shadows. Apart

from that he was a wanderer,
most of the time he was gone. I think
that he also begged along the way
or was locked up for a few days
as a tramp without money.
He never talked about it.
When he came to us, he was
very happy and so were we.
But over the course of
a few weeks he became restless.
One day he was gone again. He

also was a sailor. He came home,
you never knew when,
with a lot of gifts and
adventurous stories. He was

mostly gentle and patient.
He let me guess how big
the world was and which number
was the most mysterious.
When he slept, he snored like
a violin maker in the wrong
octave. At his

blue table, where he spent
most of the weekends,
he made astronomical calculations.
The table lit up brightly
before he started to a star excursion
to find our next vacation place. My

mother was always happy on
our family holidays, where we ate
in restaurants. She didn't have
to cook. She laughed much more
than at home.

I got the idea of organizing a state funeral for a dictator a few years ago: to find a Museum of Modern Art that would provide a large space for such a funeral.

With all the props for such an event: state flags, flower arrangements, path carpets to walk on, soldiers marching according to fixed rules , lights, that would create a dignified atmosphere.
And, of course, in the center, the open coffin with the dictator - not a fictitious one, but a living dictator like Putin, Assad, Xi Jinping, Trump, you name it. Upon entering the room, visitors would be given clear instructions on how to approach the coffin and how long they are allowed to stay there, etc.

Such an action would naturally cause controversies in the run-up to the opening and generate many interventions, including from the “very top”.

Visitors to this fictitious funeral could, among other things, be made aware that living dictators will not live forever, that they are already dead in retrospect from the future, that their reign will always end.

Of course, I never had the money or the artistic fame to realize such a project. Maybe one day someone will do it

Until then -

we write poems
about the beauty of old
torn down posters at bus stops,
railway stations.

And if we don't have anyone
who scratches our back,
we have to scratch it ourselves
with what we find in the house.

Or we leave the forest paths,
to rub like deers
against tree bark.

And if we want to know
what our backs looks like,
we need to find someone,
who takes a photo of it
(a friend, a lover,
a dermatologist,
the new tenderness robot)

Please try to compare
the inner landscape of your back
with the photos. Create a map of it
with hiking trails full of bumps.

No rubble, no caves.
How could we enter a cave
on our own back?

Anyone who could,
would be a successful magician,
travelling from performance
to performance with his Back Cave Act.

Instead we clumsily try
to teach the birds to sing backwards.

Surprisingly they teach us something,
that brings again hope into our lives:

that one day we will no longer
just see car tail lights,
but finally our own back light.

It is divided into 74 sections
numbered in Roman numerals.

I like the book so much

to write new sections, also using the
Roman numerials.

This is my first post

VXXV

How many milligrams
weighs a good idea,
does it weigh more than
a worrying thought?

Who commands the dreams
to run away so fast in the morning
that they can no longer be caught?

Do meadows go into hibernation

live in caves?

Who told the first joke
in the history of mankind?

like jam and enjoy them later?

What clothes does the black choose,
when it goes out on a date?

Who helps the hammer
with 2 small nails across the road?

Why don't we pee with our
little right toe and how would
our toilets look then?

Don't wish you were an angel,
they have to look for water all the time,
at every drinking trough, every bowl
to keep their wings light and dry.

They need to be constantly repaired,
as not to fall away from God,
or from the sky - lost in thought.

They don't know where to put their wings,
when they love each other or quarrel.

They often just sit there impassively ,
when they should be protecting children
or listen to the wishes of the desperate.

Too many fall in love unhappily
with water bowls of toy dogs,
try to drink against the bowl silence.

They never give up
even after hundreds of years.
But what is time in their world?

The “Book of Questions”
(Libro de preguntas) was published
posthumously in 1974 after Pablo Neruda's death.
It is divided into 74 sections
numbered in Roman numerals.

I like the book so much
that some years ago I started
to write new sections, also using the
Roman numerials.

This is my sixth post
with the numerial 80,
other releases will follow.

Why is it not raining
giraffes and hippos
instead of cats and dogs?

Tonight's dream,
why can't he be my guest
for a few days?

If there were a heaven after death,
would there still be mornings
and evenings?

Where do we go
when we sit on a chair?

When we sing to ourselves in the forest,
does the blackbird and the other birds
listen to our song?

Please forgive me belly button.PNG

https://www.instagram.com/saramant98/p/DEuzleVtiJr/

This is my second post of the series:
"Please forgive me"

I got the idea from a poem of mine
that I wrote some time ago:

How does someone look like
who wants to steal all belly buttons?
Who came up with such a shitty idea?
Which is completely impracticable too.

What does he want to achieve?
To return them for a high ransom?
Trying to create a new religion?
A separate universe with our illuminated bellybuttons
like stars in his sky?
Or even in our sky?

Perhaps he has missed a nurturing mother, wants to take revenge
on her or get everything back,
that cannot be retrieved.
Perhaps an irresponsible therapist
has given him this as homework
until the next session.

Either way,
the matter remains impracticable.
It's bad enough that such ideas
are even put into the world
by someone I unfortunately know well.

Wie sieht jemand aus,
der alle Bauchnäbel stehlen will?
Wer kommt auf so eine so beschissene Idee?
Die obendrein vollkommen undurchführbar ist.

Was will er damit erreichen,

Sitzung aufgegeben.

Wie auch immer,
die Sache bleibt undurchführbar,
schlimm genug, dass solche Ideen
überhaupt in die Welt gesetzt werden
von Jemand, den ich leider gut kenne.

bad haiku introduction.PNG

This haiku in japanese language
is one of the most famous haiku
of Basho, a Zen writer in the 17th century:

The old pond.
A frog jumps in -
the sound of water

Japanese haiku usually consist of
three word groups of 5 - 7 - 5 sound units,

I am interested in Zen and practising it
for a long time. Some time ago I intuitively
started to write " bad haiku" that deliberately
don't fulfil the criteria of a haiku:
being concrete, in reference to the present moment
and of course being conscious out of some kind of enlightment.

Maybe these "bad haiku" help me and you on the path of
full understanding.

Other posts will follow.

Dieses Haiku in japanischer Sprache
ist eines der berühmtesten Haiku
von Basho, einem Zen-Dichter des 17. Jahrhunderts:

time wouldn't turn over in its sleep.

And if I were to fall off a hundred meter cliff -
time wouldn't even look.

And if I stopped eating

In his video message on January 7, Zuckerberg announced, among other things, the decision to stop professional fact-checking expertise and, under the heading of “freedom of expression”, to put a much softer stand on hate speech and discriminatory statements. It will now be allowed f. ex. to call homosexuals “mentally disturbed”. (Yes, yes, God created the world 4,000 years ago, there was no evolution, homosexuality is a sin and anyone who is, should find an evangelical “therapist” who can cure him or her of this disorder... etc etc.) Such and other views should then have equal rights as free speech.

In his choice of words, Zuckerberg is adopting key messages from the US American right, evangelicals and the Trump movement. Kneeling before Trumpism or a radical change of opinion or both? Either way....

It is outrageous how quickly the protection of minorities no longer counts and diversity can be erased by the so called "mainstream".

As an artist who presents himself on Instagram, I protest against this in the strongest possible terms! To set a sign, I will be putting a black mourning stripe on the upper right-hand corner of my next posts for some time. Maybe you find other ways of expressing your discontent. As artists we are curious and open minded to other people and cultures, let's continue to fight for these values, also in Instagram.

"Gleichschaltung" is the German word for the totalitarian control over all aspects of the German society under Hitler 1933 - 1945. Gleichschaltung is starting in the USA now in all kind of forms.

80 years after Hitler the means of controlling and manipulating people are far greater.
"Which side are you on?" the system asks it's citizen. "Are you for us or against us?"
Gleichschaltung only works with prominent personalities, that support and promote the system and profit from it. You name it.

Let's find creative forms of protest against a system that tries to bring people into line.

Trump means war.PNG

https://www.instagram.com/saramant98/p/DGDual0N9Ut/

The day Hitler came to power on the 30th of January 1933 the German writer Lion Feuchtwanger said: "Hitler means war". There are many similarities between Hitler and Trump: the uncontrolled behaviour , the strong urge to take revenge, the inability to bear criticicm, all kind of forms of racism.
As with Hitler, his aggressive foreign policy of threatening, humiliating and oppressing other nations in a variety of ways is particularly dangerous. Like back in 1933. After 12 years of Hitler, Europe was destroyed, 60 to 80 million people died from war and murder.

Trump means war. Let's resist!

I have - thank goodness

The bombing of Tokyo on March 10, 1945 was not the first and not the last war crime committed by the USA against the civilian population of another country. 80,000 to 100,000 women, men and children were burned alive at that day. 279 B 29 bombers dropped 1680 tons of bombs on Tokyo. Most of them were cluster bombs that exploded a few hundred meters above the ground, each releasing 38 containers full of napalm that razed large parts of the city with its predominantly wooden houses to the ground. It was an attack that was deliberately carried out against the civilian population. It happened a few months before Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It is less in the public consciousness.

Behind such crimes are always people who gave orders and carried out these orders. Yet no one has ever been convicted for this crime, it should finally be named as a war crime by the UN.
There is no excuse, no justification for this criminal act.

the English garden compared to
the baroque French garden.
He advocated the public park,
in which all social classes
can enjoy nature.
The drawings are from his work,

Rousseau, who in his novel “Julie or

popular books of the 18th century -
describes an idealized English garden.

The 30-year-old Turkish student and doctoral candidate Rumeysa Öztürk is stopped, encircled, tied up and taken away in Boston by 6 masked human beings on her way to break her Ramadan fast, watched by a surveillance camera. Her screams of fear are another grim low in the brutality and lawlessness of the Trump administration. The images could have been recorded in Moscow, Beijing or Tehran.

Who are these dark and menacing figures and who gave the orders, the chain of command. The apparent leader who first stops, attacks and later ties up the young woman makes the mistake of looking directly into the camera once, two other faces can be seen before the masking.

You will climb on his face

Afterwards you will undergo
a thirty days goblin
purification ceremony,
before you can join

Now we corn poppies
will celebrate.
Our blades never want
to stand still anymore.
We have decoded the wind.
It can no longer be switched off.

You little creatures are all invited.

Swinging dancing Bimbam -
the new red masked DJ
will put on the music
in our infinite Milky Way.

Potato sack in the cellar -
what are you hiding from me
in your darkness?

The pair of ducks,
flying over us -
have they not heard us
quarreling about something?

What would our thoughts look like
if we could see them with a microscope
or a binocular?

If they could scent us like deer
where would they run to?

Who would dare
to leave the house in the dark,
if the night was the tongue
of a wild beast.

Lock yourself away for a night
with a friend in a large public library.
Go to the fiction section.
Take one novel at a time
from the shelves.
Read aloud on the last page
the last sentence.
Then put the book back.
Take turns reading last sentences
until the sun rises.

Never read from the same book twice.

"Beauty and the Beast" - a photo story

From the song "Beauty and the Beast":

Fairytales are written by time
And time and time again they turn out to be true
Until recently, they have barely known each other
But then they faced each other after all
And against all odds, it suddenly seemed obvious.

Some time ago I read something
about the term: Ephemera.
The word derives from the
Greek ephēmeros 'lasting only a day'.
This Greek definition of something
quickly coming and going like a
supermarket receipt or a
handwritten shopping list
took me associatively to its opposite
such as the 3500 years old temple and the royal tombs of Luxor in Egypt, that I visited with my family last summer.

I looked again through the Luxor photos and selected 5 that I combined
with everyday things, everyday observations like objects on the floor, a quick painting, scraps of paper from an advertising pillar, rust spots on a construction waste container,
cobwebs. Let´s call them Ephemera.

Fried egg (framed)

The idea of framing a fried egg
and hanging it on the wall I got
some years ago. (The idea is somehow
so obvious that I'm sure others
have already realized it).

I did it this weekend with my brother.
You can see the various steps
in the photo story. One of my daughters, Lucia, had the idea of hardening the fried egg in the freezer.

The idea was already fun,
the realization even more.
The bowling balls with the shoe

Hospital flower portraits

About 20 years ago I was hospitalised
for 5 days because of kidney stones.
I was out of pain very quickly
and just had to wait for the
stones to dissolve.
Other patients were much worse off.

During that time, my girl friend
visited me one day with a nice purple
coloured flower in a vase as a gift.
I asked her to take a few
portrait photos with the flower
and my left arm.

A few days ago, while tidying up,
I found 2 photos from it in a box.

Visit of a small Bavarian castle.
Enjoy.

Two weeks ago, I was at a birthday party with my family on the grounds of the small Castle of Reimlingen in Bavaria. During a guided tour
I learnt about the crusaders of the Teutonic Order, about the victorious battle of a catholic against a protestant army close by and about the love story of a nobleman with a beautiful non-noblewoman, whose daughter Caroline with the long name: Countess von Waldbott von Bossenheim, born as Princess zu Oettingen- Wallerstein can be seen in the last picture with her horse.
For me, too, it was a ride - through 500 years of crazy German history,
that I try to approach with this post.

The pictures 5 and 6 I originally wanted to post in the landscape format, but it didn't work, so they are not presented in the way I intended to post them.

Each number is personified
by a different sound,
that the creatures hum...”

“No, I'm not the film director,
I am just carrying around cables,
moving around wardrobes.

Won't be back to work tomorrow,
go to sleep for a week under a big hat,
that I've crocheted out of summer clouds..."

No other land.PNG

https://www.instagram.com/saramant98/p/DKTIULpKYC7/

A few days ago I saw the documentary “No other land”. No matter how you feel about Gaza and the occupied territories in the West Bank, whether you think it is Apartheid or not, whether you think it is genocide or not: this film confronts you with the brutality of the Israeli occupying army and the Israeli settlers, it penetrates and overwhelms everything you have read and seen about it in newspaper articles and television reports. This Oscar-winning movie is absolutely worth seeing!

In the last few days I constantly thought about scenes in the movie and how I could transform my feelings into art: when wells are filled in with concrete and elementary school are destroyed with bulldozers. And this very strong feeling of the injustice done to the palestinian villagers.

Then Martha Rosler came into my mind. Her old anti war collages finally helped me to find ways to express myself.

So my posts today are a tribute to the New York based photographer and conceptual artist Martha Rosler, who provocatively brought the Vietnam War into the living rooms of middle-class US families in the 1960s with her collages entitled “House beautiful”.

In picture 5 you find me as a young child with my mother behind me.

In my first sixpack, I would like to bring together posts that I mainly published on Insta in September and October 24. They were one of my first posts, I was completely inexperienced and incredibly excited to see if anyone would be interested in them. Now, after 9 months, I think it's too bad that my first pictures now hardly get any attention. So I put together 6 (plus 2 bonus) pictures, which I took from old family albums and added my own texts.

I remember, it was so great to see uncles and aunts in the pictures from old times (most of them no longer alive) and put them in a completely different context.

Enjoy (again)!
